Program Description

This course - PSYC 101 General Psychology in China - is a fully
online course with a 10-day trip to China. It is designed to give
students at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, a
unique opportunity to recognize sociocultural and international
diversity and their infl uence on psychological development.
Students will learn about Chinese history, traditions, customs
and more while exploring historically and culturally signifi cant
sites such as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer
Palace and the Terra Cotta Warriors Museum. In addition,
students will take a closer look at local people’s lives through
visits to Zhongfuhui Children’s palace, an elementary school, a local resident’s home, a senior citizens’ home and a
local Chinese university.
During travel, students will be required to collect data through
personal observations and/or interviews of the local people and
university students. The research project is to help students
gain insight about how human characters, behaviors, dreams
and concerns may refl ect their surrounding culture.
This is a Core B course at HACC that is required for many
programs. It is also a popular transfer course from HACC to
other four-year schools.
